Regional Station, Dalang Maidan (H.P.)
LOCATION & CLIMATE
It is situated in the district of Lahaul & Spiti of the Himachal Pradesh and located approximately at 320 30’ N latitude, 760 59’ E longitude and 9990 ft (3045 m) altitude about 7 km south-east of intersection of the Lahaul Valley (Chenab Valley), the banks of Chandra River. It is situated on Leh Manali road about 15 Kilometres away from Keylong, the district head-quarter of Lahaul & Spiti.
MAJOR OBJECTIVES OF STATION
- Generation advancement wheat, barley, chickpea mustard, lentil during off season
- Seed multiplication of important cultivars/varieties
- Corrective crossing
- Screening important wheat and barley material against yellow rust and powdery mildew under natural epiphytotic conditions
- Centre for high altitude wheat and barley varietal trials
- Natural repository for wheat and barley germplasm
SOME USEFUL DEADLINES
- Receipt of material at IIWBR, Karnal for sowing: First Week of May
- Sending seed directly to Dalang Maidan is not permissible, seed received after deadline will not be sown in summer nursery
- Sowing period: May 10-25
- Crossing period: July 15 to Aug 10
- Disease recording & selection period: August 15-September 15
- Harvesting: September 25 – October 10
- Harvest material receipt at Karnal: October 10-20
- Material dispatch to co-operators: October 20-25
