SEED AND RESEARCH FARM HISAR

LOCATION AND CLIMATE:
The climate of Hisar is semi-arid and dry. The seasonal variation of the temperature is significant. In summers, the temperature may go beyond 46°C and in winters it may approach 1.5°C with occasional frost. The rainfall is scanty and most of the rainfall occurs during the monsoon season (July-August). The average annual rainfall is around 429 mm. The ICAR-Indian Institute of Wheat and Barley Research, Seed and Research Farm, Hisar with an area of 200 acres is located at the Southern bypass in the North-West of Hisar city.

MAJOR OBJECTIVES OF THE STATION
- Breeder seed production of popular/newly released wheat and barley varieties.
- Evaluation of wheat and barley lines and trials under the All India Coordinated Wheat and Barley Improvement Programme.
- Conduction of wheat and barley station trials.
- Screening of national and international nurseries under soil salinity conditions.
- The main research focus is on development and evaluation of wheat and barley genotypes under natural soil salinity conditions.
